How do you create and format a personal business letter?
Key Questions:
What are the differences between block and modified block style letters? What are the differences between open and mixed punctuation? When do you indent paragraphs? Where does the subject line go? When do you use "Dear Sir or Madam" or "To Whom It May Concern" in the salutation? What are reference initials? What is an enclosure notation?
Activating Strategy:
Review personal business letters.
Instructional Strategies and Student Activity:
  • Continue Daily Journal
  • Students will complete PBL 6, 7, 8, and 9
  • Put your name in a footer on all letters
  • Print and turn in PBL 6, 7, 8 and 9
  • Check your grades in IC; complete and turn in any missing assigments!
Summarizing Strategy:

TOD: What is the difference between block and modified block format? How do you set tab stops? Where do you set the tab stops? What is the horizontal center? What is mixed punctuation? What parts of a modified block style letter are aligned at the horizontal center? Where does the subject line go? What are reference initials? What is an enclosure notation?
